Joe Szekeley


1997: Catching and Hitting Coach

Szekely is in his first year with the Silver Bullets and joins the team as the hitting and catching coach. Prior to joining the Silver Bullets, he has accumulated more that 10 years professional baseball experience.

Szekely has played minor league ball with the Kansas City Royals (1982-83), the Los Angeles Dodgers (1983-89), the Toronto Blue Jays (1990), and the Atlanta Braves (1991-92). He also played under Phil Niekro while with the Braves' AAA team in Richmond, Virginia.

Szekeley's coaching experience includes a three-year stint in the Atlanta Braves organizatio as a catching coach and roving catching coordinator, which included managing and instructing all minor league catchers for the organization (1992-95).

The Texas native attended Texas A&M University before being drafted his junior year by the Royals. He and his wife have two daughters, Shelby, 3, and Morgan, 1, and reside in New Braunfels, Texas.
